3 before 1

I never saw her cry
Until I was an adult

She sung a hymn
And feed me food
Since the day I could walk

I never realized her pain
Until I was mid 20s
And that is when I saw
Something true.

She never talked about
My aunt or my uncle too
She never talked about how
She felt
I’m not sure she really knew
She never talked about the pain that lived inside.
Or the way the world had to shift the days they died.

Years down the road at 29,
When Ray went away
And the whole world cried.
I never saw her break or fall apart.
Grandma always had a
Beautiful heart.

Five years later in 2020,
When I was 34,
Grandma got her ticket
To God’s golden door

My soul went numb
And everything went dark
See when Grandma died,
So did my heart.

So here I am now
In a room where she once
Stayed.
Living in a home that she
Helped make.

She buried 3, with her head high.
And we buried one, and
Her spirit forever flies.
